Lorem Ipsum is dead, long live Bacon Ipsum!

If you have ever designed a website, you most probably have used this dummy text, known as Lorem Ipsum, at some point:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Aenean eget nisi quis urna auctor viverra. Mauris vestibulum est at nibh tincidunt vitae consectetur erat adipiscing. Ut viverra feugiat velit, at consequat eros porttitor lacinia. Nulla at justo vitae diam venenatis molestie in posuere quam. Sed pulvinar congue velit, sit amet.

If that’s your case, you already know lorem.com, the “official” Lorem Ipsum generator where you can choose the length of the text you need for your design (and even buy yourself some merchandise to show your geekness). You may also have had to explain to a client that his website wasn’t going to be in latin and that those paragraphs where used just an example of fonts, color and styles (it actually happen to me twice… with the same client).

But webdesigning is a lot about creativity. Even better: it’s a lot about geek stuff. That’s why today I can declare that, to me, Lorem Ipsum is dead. Thanks to Jan-Nicholas Vanderveken, I have discovered the existence of Bacon Ipsum. Although you probably have already clicked on the link and are no longer reading this, let me quote the beginning of this delicious dummy text:

Bacon ipsum dolor sit amet tongue jerky chicken cow, meatball chuck hamburger shoulder ball tip pork loin short ribs bresaola. Tail drumstick jerky strip steak beef ribs swine. Swine chuck t-bone short ribs. Jerky shank turkey chuck, ball tip tri-tip swine fatback pork loin ribeye bresaola sirloin. Swine drumstick sirloin pancetta, shankle fatback meatloaf. Bresaola drumstick sirloin, strip steak biltong chuck beef ribs shank hamburger pork belly. Corned beef short ribs pork belly rump.

The point of using Lorem Ipsum, according to its own website, is that “it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English” but without distracting from the content itself. So does Bacon Ipsum.

You probably already love it, but in a few minutes you may start thinking that some of your clients won’t think this is funny at all. Don’t worry, Gorka Fernández showed to me how, in those cases, you can prove your high level of education by quoting nothing less than “El Quijote”, the most important work in Spainsh literature, thanks to Quijotipsum. This one doesn’t include funny options like Bacon Ipsum, but it has better functionality when choosing the length of your text (meaning that you can get a number of paragraphs or a number of words). And it will totally make you win over your Spanish clients!

On a side note, while I was testing the different dummy text generators I started wondering… is there one to generate texts of 140 characters?
